PETALING JAYA: The Prime Minister has been urged to meet up with the 11 MCA heavyweight veterans – comprising former presidents and deputy presidents – regarding the party crisis.
The self-declared spokesman of the party’s ‘third force’, Datuk Tan Kah Choun, suggested that Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak should get the personal opinions of these former leaders to resolve the endless crisis.
The listed veterans are Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu, Tan Sri Lee San Choon, Tan Sri Michael Chen, Datuk Dr Neo Yee Pan, Datuk Mak Hon Kam, Tan Koon Swan, Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik, Tan Sri Lee Kim Sai, Tan Sri Lim Ah Lek, Tan Sri Ong Ka Ting and Tan Sri Chan Kong Choy.
“If the Prime Minister is unable to meet up with these veterans, I sincerely urge him to at least meet up with Dr Ling, who has been a president for 17 years, and also to talk to Chen,” he said in a statement yesterday.
Tan said if the above measure failed to end the leadership crisis, he recommended that the Prime Minister obtain the opinion of former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as he had successfully resolved at least three MCA crises.
On the second extraordinary general meeting (EGM), Tan said some of the central committee members had called for the EGM to safeguard their own positions and interests as they were worried about being left out from the greater unity plan.
“The central delegates are tired and fed-up with the second EGM, as the AGM for MCA falls on Dec 5, which is only one week later,” he said.
Currently, Tan claimed that less than one-third of the 43 central committee members were still supporting the second EGM.
