Going into the beauty business is the most natural thing to do for Novel Lim. She also takes a natural liking to the Citroen C5 that came her way one day.
OUTDOOR filming usually entails the use of tripods, reflectors, lights and cameras. Budding actress Novel Lim’s inventory would include pots and pans even though she is not into cook shows.
The reason is quite simple. Everyone looks forward to a good meal after a long day’s work under the sun.
“When we are out on a shoot in remote areas, good food is hard to come by. So, the best thing is for us to cook for ourselves,” Novel tells StarMotoring in an interview.
While filming the movie Legacy of Lost Love outside Sungai Lembing last year, Novel and her cast and crew of over 30 persons spent over a week at the sleepy town.
“We rented a semi-detached house for ourselves and bought a week’s supply of food since the place was some distance from town.
“The house had a stove or else we would have had to bring our own,” she laughs.
Novel admits that she is not a very good cook and chips in by cleaning and slicing up the vegetables and meat.
“We were lucky that one of our cast members is a good cook and we really look forward to her dishes,” she says.
“Some might think that it was tough for us city folk to cook for ourselves but we managed to enjoy every moment,” she says.
Besides the Legacy of Lost Love, Novel has also starred in The Feud and Marriage on RTM, and Age of Glory on ntv7.
She does not mind playing the good or bad girl roles since such roles would allow her to develop her acting skills.
The 24-year-old Ipoh lass caught the acting bug and modelling soon after winning the Miss Astro Chinese International 2006 title.
Winning the Miss Astro Chinese International title was her childhood dream come true.
“I already knew about the pageant when I was 12 years old. I promised myself I would take part in it when I reached 21,” says the lanky 1.7m girl.
Novel has just set up her own business, a slimming centre in Ipoh called La Novel.
“I have wanted to go into the beauty business since I was 20.”
The salon, which also has a gym, opened two months ago and most of her customers are friends and people introduced by word of mouth.
Health-conscious Novel said that doing exercises was only part of the answer to staying slim.
“You also need to eat healthy.”
Novel goes around in her automatic Toyota Vios, her first car.
“I bought the car in 2006 because it was neither too big nor pricey, and was easy to drive and park. It also gave me good mileage since I do a lot of driving.”
She also took the Citroen C5 luxury sedan, courtesy of local distributors Brooklands Motor Sdn Bhd, for a short spin around Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Kuala Lumpur.
“Although I am used to driving smaller cars, it was still easy to familiarise myself with the C5’s larger dimensions after using it for a few minutes,” she says.
“The C5 comes with a host of parking sensors at the front and rear to make parking easy,” she says.
Novel finds that the C5’s sleek looks and stylish interior styling makes it stand out from other cars on local roads.
It’s also the first time that Novel has rode in a car equipped with a hydropneumatic suspension system.
“The C5 is easily the most comfortable car I have been in. I hardly felt the potholes and bumps as the car went over them,” said Novel.
At around RM199,000, the C5 seems to be an attractive offer since the car is as big as a medium-sized Mercedes-Benz or BMW, which cost a lot more.
“It comes with almost everything automatic including automatic wipers, headlights and a tyre pressure warning system.
Since almost everything in the C5 is automatic, driving it is just as easy. ”
