Distraught grandpa still can’t get to see poison victims

What say you on the issue below?

KLANG: Rubber tapper V. Muniandy (pic) cuts a desolate figure as he waits in vain in the lobby of the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital to visit his four grandchildren. They have been warded there after being fed weedkiller.

The old man is desperate to gain entry into the paediatric intensive care unit but he has been barred. For the time being, only the children’s father, M. Manimaran, is allowed to see them.

“I am desperate to see my grandchildren. I love them so much and want to see for myself that they are okay.

“It’s killing me that I’m not even able to see them,” said Muniandy, who was finally forced to return home to Gemenceh in Negri Sembilan yesterday without seeing his grandchildren.

Darshini, Usha Rani, Yugendran and Navina, aged between nine and three years were given drinks laced with weedkiller by their mother R. Seetha, 33, on Thursday.

Seetha, who had come to Klang from Gemenceh to attend her younger brother Surenthiran’s funeral earlier in the week, also drank poison after being depressed over the death.

Surenthiran, 24, was one of five suspected robbers and alleged members of the PCO Boy gang killed during a police shootout last Saturday night.

Manimaran said hospital authorities barred visitors due to concerns that the children might get infected.

“The children are in a very vulnerable condition and susceptible to all kinds of infection.

“The doctors said the children can have visitors once they are transferred to the regular ward,” said Manimaran, adding that Usha Rani, Yugendran and Navina appeared to be doing well.

“But Darshini is still in a serious condition,” he said, adding that his wife’s condition had also worsened and that she had become weaker.

“My wife suffers from gastritis and that has aggravated matters,” said Manimaran, who spent almost the whole day in the hospital, taking care of his wife and children.

The family has received several visitors, including Human Rights Party leader P. Uthayakumar, Kapar MP S. Manikavasagam, Klang MP Charles Santiago and MIC youth chief T. Mohan.
