ALOR SETAR: The third day of the Kedah state assembly meeting yesterday was postponed to Sunday after the assembly hall’s air conditioning system broke down.
Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azizan Abdul Razak proposed to postpone the sitting, 30 minutes after it started, as the temperature was getting too hot for comfort.
State speaker Datuk Dr Abdul Isa Ismail in allowing the postponement said the assembly hall’s air conditioning was not working properly and it would take hours to repair.
“This is the first time such a thing has ever happened and it is beyond our control.”
Yesterday was supposed to be the last day of the three-day sitting for the second term of the assembly this year.
The assemblymen were scheduled to debate the state’s 2010 budget in the morning while Azizan was scheduled to make his winding-up speech in the afternoon.
Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid (BN-Pedu) when met outside the hall said that the incident should have not happened if the air conditioning was checked and serviced prior to the sitting.
