Buffet with the 1Malaysia spirit

What say you on the issue below?

MALAYSIANS just love their food, and food is a way of unifying the country’s multiracial population.

In line with the government’s 1Malaysia concept, the Wild Rice Restaurant in Boulevard Hotel is featuring a variety of Malaysian food in its Citarasa Satu Malaysia buffet.

Yummy: The buffet even offers Deep-Fried Yam Basket, which is typically served at sit-down dinners.

Available for dinner every Friday, the buffet features four menus that are rotated each week, so diners would get to experience different dishes every week.

Boulevard Hotel food and beverage manager Kenneth Dharshan said their Ramadan buffet was well received, so they took the menu from there and compiled the four sets of menu which have elements of all the different states.

“We have also taken into consideration our non-Malaysian customers, so we have some Western food, too,” Dharshan said.

Some of the dishes, like the Mee Rebus Alor Setar and the Oxtail Assam Pedas, were family recipes of senior sous chef Shahran Hadzim, who hails from Kedah.

A mix of flavours: Seafood lovers can try the Ikan Kerapu Masak Tiga Rasa from Kelantan.

Dharshan said they also had the whole roasted lamb, with a different style of marination for the different weeks.

Malaysian food would not be complete without hawker fare, and the buffet has a stall serving favourites like Penang Assam Laksa, Fish Ball Noodle Soup, Roti Jala with Chicken Curry and Mee Jawa Muar.

Besides a variety of fresh fruits, cakes and puddings to end the meal, there is a variety of local Chinese, Indian and Malay desserts.

Crustacean options: Among the dishes whipped up by chef Shahran are Ketam Masak Lemak Tempoyak Chili Api (front) and Adabong Hipom Sagata Prawn, which is a Sabah speciality.

The buffet is available from 7pm to 10pm every Friday, priced at RM75 nett per person and RM38 nett for children aged between four and 12 years.
