TEMPORARY measures will be taken to address the landslip at Sungai Kayu Ara near Taman Kayu Ara Indah in Petaling Jaya.
An official from the Petaling district Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) said the landslip was due to the recent downpour. He said there was sedimentation, causing soil erosion.
The DID is bringing in their experts to assess the situation for further action.
The residents are shocked over the landslip as the slope strengthening work was completed recently.
Retiree Yahya Ngah Sham, 63, said officials had come to cover the area with tarpaulin sheets.
He said the DID had just finished their work near the river.
“We did not hear anything when it happened and only realised later,” he said,
Homemaker Fazilah Osman, 45, said the landslip took place at about 4.30pm after the rain had stopped.
“It was raining heavily and this caused the soil movement.
“This is the second such incident here,” she said.
The residents have been complaining about the weak riverbank for more than 10 years.
In October last year, families from four houses had to be evacuated after a landslide caused a road along the river to collapse.
The worsening erosion over the months has also left a gaping hole on the bridge that links Kampung Kayu Ara with Damansara Utama.
