Liew keen to meet varsity mates

What say you on the issue below?

SUBANG JAYA: Multi-racial open houses, friendly inter-block competitions, and life with a roommate of a different race - these are what Tan Sri Liew Kee Sin remembers most of his university days.

The memories are still vivid in his mind although it has been 30 years ago that he last seen some of his university mates.

So, Liew is naturally excited when a reunion will be organised on Dec 12 for former students of Universiti Malaya’s (UM) fifth residential college of 1978 to 1984.

Time flies: (From left): Kulwant, Hasbullah Hassan, Liew, Chong and Gan Ber Koon, who are from different faculties of UM’s fifth residential college between the years 1978 to 1984, sharing good old memories during their university days.

“Thirty years flew by just like that as many of us are busy with our lives, pursuing careers and building families,” said Liew, who is SP Setia group managing director and chief executive officer.

Fifth Collegian Chong Huck Joo, of year 1978, said the best part about their university was that they got to mingle and stay with different races, especially friends from Sabah and Sarawak.

“The concept of 1Malaysia has already been long existed in our campus,” he said.

The former college mates credited their late college principal Datuk Mohd Yunus Noor for instilling the multi-cultural values in them and getting them to celebrate the differences in colour and religion. Organising coordinator for the reunion, Kulwant Singh said Mohd Yunus was a strong influence in them

They are hoping to have at least 200 students from the different faculties, who studied at the Fifth Residential College between the years of 1978 to 1984, at the reunion do.
