PUTRAJAYA: Perbadanan Nasional (PNS) has set up a flying squad that will look out for local businesses from all over the country that can be developed as franchise ventures here and abroad, said Domestic Trade, Co-operative and Consumerism Minis-ter Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
He said he believed that the move would allow the corporation, which had helped to develop 22 franchise brands in the country, to further boost such businesses.
Ismail Sabri said the corporation had also embarked on a conversion programme capable of allowing businesses with the potential, to be turned into franchises.
The corporation would also start a Licensing Loan Scheme next year for entrepreneurs interested in getting business licence to open up chains, he added.
PNS, Ismail Sabri said, had also set aside RM20mil in funds to be offered as loans to businesses using the Islamic Mortgage concept, that had the potential to be developed as franchise businesses.
Ismail Sabri added that the government decided to pursue the idea of promoting franchise businesses as it was proven successful if managed properly.
“It is also capable of helping create more Bumiputra entrepreneurs,” Ismail Sabri said at the Franchise Awards Night 2009 here on Wednesday.
Ismail Sabri said the government had set the target to have 50 franchisors under the Ninth Malaysia Plan and had already managed to help open 46 such businesses.
