CROWN started their campaign in the Milo-Under-21 football league — for the Datuk Mohd Salleh Ahmad Challenge Trophy — on a winning note when they upstaged Kuala Langat 4-1 in a Group B match at the Proton ground in Shah Alam recently.
Hardworking R. Chandran scored twice while R. Saran and P. Jagathisan scored one each. Kuala Langat’s solitary goal was scored by Mohd Radzi Pilus.
Organising chairman Datuk K. Sivabalaan said they were happy with the Football Association of Selangor (FAS) who had sent their officials to scout for new talents.
Selangor coach K. Devan and his assistant P. Maniam were present to watch the matches as well as monitor the young players.
“The coaches’ presence is certainly encouraging and showed their commitment. The players will be motivated. We hope to see some of the players involved in the league get selected to play for Selangor,’’ said Sivabalaan.
The league, sanctioned by the FAS, is organised by the Nilam Puri Football Club with support from Chui Lok Club, Horizon Club, Crown Club and Victoria Club.
All preliminary round matches are expected to be completed by Dec 13. After the preliminary rounds, the top two teams from each group will qualify for the quarter-finals. The sponsors for the league are Milo, Figos and Peritrans.
The champions will receive RM3,000 as well as prizes from Milo and Figos, the runners-up RM2,000 while the losing semi-finalists will get RM1,000 each. There will be individual awards for the best striker, best midfielder, best defender, best goalkeeper, man of the match (final) and best team manager.
