INDONESIA’S Bandi Sugito and Team Kedah’s Masziyaton Md Radzi are out to win their fourth consecutive title in the KL Mountain Bike Carnival at the Kiara Trails in Taman Lembah Kiara this weekend.
Bandi was the champion in the men’s Elite category while Masziyaton was the winner in the women’s Elite section for the past three seasons.
The carnival, organised by Quick Release Adventures, offers a total cash purse of RM27,000, considered the biggest in the region.
The objective is to raise public awareness on mountain-biking as a sport and to promote a healthier lifestyle.
Last year, the carnival attracted about 150 participants who had go through the muddy trails, also known as the nirvana of trails among mountain-biking circles.
An increasing number of participants are coming from Hong Kong, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand and even Australia to race on one of the most technically challenging mountain-biking courses in the region. The Youth category, introduced in 2004, had also been a platform to identify young riders.
Many of the youngsters had put mountain bikers to shame with their technical abilities and fearlessness.
