GEORGE TOWN: An Indonesian woman died after she fell from a slope while trying to flee a police raid at a construction site near Taman Sanctuary, Gelugor. The woman, in her 20s, and her boyfriend, also an Indonesian, had jumped down a 20m slope at the back of a house at about 10am yesterday.
She was still able to talk and even offered the house owner a RM50 bribe to allow them to escape before succumbing to her injury.
Her boyfriend was admitted to the Penang Hospital with serious body injuries.
The duo were earlier spotted standing precariously on the slope by the house owner before they fell.
State police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Wira Ayub Yaakob confirmed the incident.
A total of 120 foreigners were screened during the operation and nine were arrested for overstaying and for not having proper documents.
