Police increasing patrols in Brickfields

What say you on the issue below?

THE police are monitoring 10 crime hotspots in the Brickfields township to ensure that the public are safe.

Chief Inspector Edmond Wong Meng Tian from the Travers police station said officers were patrolling the areas, especially the backlanes, several times a day and monitoring is also done via CCTVs directly linked to the headquarters in Brickfields.

“We are aware of the hotspots and are doing our best to reduce crime in the area,’’ he said, adding that eight to 10 officers are on patrol each shift.

There you go: Wong passing a bag containing crime prevention brochures to the public at the monorail station.

Wong was speaking to reporters after launching a crime prevention awareness campaign at the Brickfields monorail station on Tuesday.

The police and the Rukun Tetangga were present to distribute brochures and pamphlets on crime prevention with the relevant numbers to call in an emergency.

Wong said he was aware that there had been complaints from the public of rowdy behaviour of intoxicated patrons of some shops but said that the matter was being looked into.
