THE Petaling Jaya City Council will make use of the two weeks that Jalan Tanjung in Bandar Utama is open to traffic to study the feasibility of turning the road into a four-lane dual carriageway.
Petaling Jaya mayor Datuk Mohamad Roslan Sakiman said if the two-way traffic plan was workable, the state would consider acquiring the land belonging to Bandar Utama City Corporation.
“However, the state will not use ratepayers’ money to acquire the strip of land. Instead, we will set up a trust fund for the purpose with contributions from the affected developers, and probably a small amount from the council,” he told reporters after the monthly full board meeting yesterday.
Jalan Tanjung is supposed to be reopened for two weeks to traffic from Persiaran Tropicana going to Lebuh Bandar Utama following a directive from the state government on Monday.
However, the road was still closed as of 4.30pm yesterday and it was learnt that the relevant parties were still sorting out paperwork and technical matters.
He said the council was also in the process of reopening Jalan 1A/1 that linked Ara Damansara and Tropicana and which had been closed for several years following a court injunction.
“The injunction stated that the road should be closed until the Tropicana Tunnel is completed. Now that the tunnel has been in use for several months, it is time the road is opened again,” he said.
He added that in an effort to ease traffic, the U-turn near the Tropicana Tunnel would also be moved further away from the tunnel.
Meanwhile, the stop-work order imposed on Jaya Supermarket has been lifted after the architect and contractor paid a RM450,000 fine and the developer made a contribution of RM148,000.
Roslan said the compound was issued under the Uniformed Building Bylaw and Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974, adding that work would restart four days after the submission of the B Form by the architect.
“The parties involved can continue with the work at the collapsed structure but they will have to file another Method of Statement again to demolish the other building,” he said.
Alam Flora’s inefficiency, waiver of dog licence fee for senior citizens, meetings without minutes that hinder the decision-making process within the council as well as roads and drainage yet to be surrendered to the council were some of the other issues brought up during the full board meeting.
