THE Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) wants motorists to take traffic summonses issued by the council seriously.
At the recent fullboard meeting, Petaling Jaya mayor Datuk Mohamad Roslan Sakiman said that people were more afraid of police summons but do not pay attention to the ones issued by the council.
He said that the council was planning to obtain approval to ensure those who fail to settle their summons would not be allowed to renew their licence.
Applications have been submitted to the Housing and Local Government and Transport ministries regarding the matter.
He also said that the council had carried out 42 operations on cybercafes from Oct 1 to 22.
He said 18 compounds were issued and 39 premises had been sealed.
On Oct 20, eight cybercafes without licences were sealed around Kota Damansara area.
It was also mentioned that MBPJ had received 6905 complaints from January to September and they had taken action on 6,294 complaints.
For October alone, a total 703 complaints were received, out of which 478 have been resolved.
At the meeting, councillors expressed their dissatisfaction with the Alam Flora Sdn Bhd hotline.
They said that the public was disappointed with the line and response by Alam Flora.
It was also pointed out that even though the services have been privatised, the problem usually came back to the council.
The councillors requested for a list of all the contractors according to zones. Roslan said that the list would be given to them.
“Right now they are in the midst of rezoning and they are supposed to put up signages to indicate their schedule.
“All these should be settled by Nov 15,” he said.
Roslan also announced that the MBPJ’s website had been chosen as the best among all websites by local councils and came out in seventh among all the government agencies in Malaysia.
