ROAD conditions in Kampung Baru Balakong are deteriorating with frequent usage by heavy vehicles.
The worst affected road in the new village is Jalan 2/15 as it provides access to the industrial area and construction sites where lorries transport stone and gravel daily.
Serdang MCA division deputy chairman Datuk Hoh Hee Lee said the 0.7km road used by residents for decades was in the danger of caving in if no preventive measures were carried out.
“The road is currently riddled with potholes, making every ride a bumpy one and also causing some accidents. Months ago, it was in good condition and villagers had no complaints,” he said.
Kampung Baru Balakong Federal Village Development and Security Committee (JKKKP) chairman Yap Yoon pointed out that he received complaints on the poor condition of the road almost daily.
“The road may be a village road but it was upgraded some years ago to provide villagers with two-way access. Little did we know it would be heavily used by lorries and fail to benefit residents as it originally intended,” he said.
According to new village resident Chong Wee Men, some of the residents were afraid to complain due to the aggressive attitude of the lorry drivers.
“We do not want any confrontations. All we ask is that the Kajang Municipal Council come to our rescue by maintaining this road and fill the holes,” he added.
Stall owner M. Murugan said lorries used the road between 8am and 4pm daily.
The councillor in charge of Balakong, Lee Ah Seng, said he would look into the matter soon.
