Lim: Hopefully meeting will provide solution for MCA

What say you on the issue below?

KUALA LUMPUR: The outcome of tomorrow’s MCA closed-door dialogue session will determine whether the second extraordinary general meeting (EGM) on Nov 28 will go ahead or suffer an early setback.

The meeting would gather views from the grassroots leaders, said newly-appointed central committee member Datuk Donald Lim Siang Chai.

“Hopefully, the best solution can emerge by then. However, if grassroots leaders attending the session do not agree with the greater unity plan, I believe fresh elections will be the only solution,” Lim told a press conference after the Third Global Bio-Herbs Economic Forum yesterday.

Lim, also chairman of INS Bioscience Bhd, said many party members and leaders in the Chinese community were disappointed with the current situation in the MCA.

“I think now is the time for the party’s top leaders to come out with the best solution agreeable to all,” he said, adding that the greater unity plan was one of the solutions.

Lim said all the senior leaders in the party would attend the closed-door meeting, and that he would support any solution that could unite the party.

Asked if he would attend the second EGM on Nov 28, Lim said he would decide after tomorrow’s session.

The session will be held at Dewan San Choon in Wisma MCA from 9am to noon to discuss the current issues affecting the party and the legality of the Nov 28 EGM called by three requisitionists.

Deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek is the head of the greater unity plan task force.

In Petaling Jaya, PJ Utara division secretary Datuk Dr Wong Sai Hou said the public was fed up with the daily doses of “I’m right and you’re wrong” political volleys in the MCA.

He added that there should be an end to all knee-jerk reactions and urged all parties to attend the dialogue.

“Our party is 60 years old and surely there must be a light at the end of the tunnel.

“Assuming the second EGM is carried out, the MCA headquarters has to call for a third EGM to hold the polls within 30 days.

“Who knows there may be a fourth EGM for those who are unhappy with the third EGM?” he said.

Dr Wong said it had been more than a month since the Oct 10 EGM but there appeared to be no single solution able to appease all factions.

Wanita MCA vice-chairman Datuk Agnes Shim Tshin Nyuk said that if the bickering continued, the party would lose the public support.

In a press statement, she urged all MCA members to support the greater unity plan.

As the Sabah Wanita MCA chairman, she said it was important for party leaders to work together and put aside their personal differences.
