A MESRA Rakyat programme organised for the people in Taman Mutiara, Bukit Botak in Selayang turned into an avenue for frustrated politicans and residents to express their sentiments on the Bukit Botak housing plan issue.
At the community programme, which was held in an area off Jalan 49 on Sunday, Bukit Templer assemblyman Datuk Subahan Kamal asked those affected to support and help him find an end to the housing issue.
He said there was no point in residents getting angry and criticising him continuously, as it would not help to tackle the situation.
Subahan added that he was expecting housing for the residents to be settled in two years as a new developer, HK Jaya Sdn Bhd, would be taking over the project from Del Puri Sdn Bhd.
“The state government and the Bukit Botak Action Commiitee are well aware of this,” he said.
“I can understand the plight of the people who have to service the bank loan even though they are not receiving the rental allowance of RM400 that they are supposed to be getting from PKNS.
“It was stopped by the state government about a year ago. Nevertheless, we are asking the residents to be patient and to look forward to solving the issue as quickly as we can,” he said at the event.
Currently, 82 units have been completed and the keys were handed over to the house owners at the event. Another 88 units will be completed in six months.
Each of the semi-detached houses costs about RM70,000.
The rest of more than 1,000 houses are expected to be completed in two years.
Subahan, who said he would not stand for office in the general election if his efforts failed to resolve the issue, added that the houses were priced at RM120,000 by the new state government before the current agreement was conceived.
“It’s been an outstanding issue in this area for so long. As the assemblyman for this area and someone who also comes from Selayang, I just want to settle this problem for the residents.
“Slowly but surely, we aim to tackle it,” he said.
Some residents later complained to him about the problems in their areas.
However, there were still some residents who could not contain their frustration over the issue and took it up with Subahan.
