PETALING JAYA: The Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) and Marseilles Fos Port Authority (MFPA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to boost their strategic partnership through joint exploration.
The agreement will have both ports exploring and implementing a coordinated marketing approach concept for the distribution of halal products in Europe, Africa and the Mediterranean.
Transport Minister Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat said the MoU includes an exchange of technical assistance, traffic developments and promotion of activities.

He pointed out that the entry port of Marseilles surrounding the Mediterranean region has over 150 million Muslims.
“PKFZ can tap into this as an added value for the transshipment of halal products from neighbouring countries not to mention the vast number of halal products in Malaysia.
“Smart partnership and strategic alliances should be undertaken by ports for the mutual benefit of all parties concerned,” he said in his speech at the signing ceremony of the halal hub cooperation in a hotel here yesterday.
Also present were Port Klang Authority chairman Datuk Lee Hwa Beng and MFPA commercial director Monica Bonvalet.
Ong added that the successful relationship between the Malaysian and French ports has brought about cross interaction between the two ports as well as the shipping communities in both countries.
