PETALING JAYA: The MCA’s greater unity plan has received outpouring support from the grassroots, said president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat.
The open support, he said, was clearly manifested in the form of media statements, e-mail, letters and text messages.
“If you read the Chinese dailies, you would know (about the support). The declarations of support for the plan are particularly from the grassroots at divisional and state level, as well as the youth and women’s wings,” he said, adding that the grassroots had also conveyed their aspirations for the party to expedite its transformation.
“I never forget what the people want, what the grassroots want. They have been yearning (for transformation),” he told reporters after witnessing the signing of an MoU at a hotel here yesterday.
Ong stressed that remarks centred on issues non-conducive to party nurturing must take a backseat to give way for more important issues concerning the interest of the community and the nation.
Ong announced the greater unity plan on Monday and is expected to provide details at the next central committee meeting.
