SUBANG Jaya Municipal (MPSJ) councillors have unanimously agreed to revoke the development order for a proposed project on a Telekom reserve land in USJ 6 during the full board meeting yesterday.
“This issue will be raised at the State Planning Committee meeting this Friday, and we hope that the state government will endorse this decision,” Subang Jaya assemblyman Hannah Yeoh said.
“Under Section 25 of the Town and Country Planning Act, the local council can revoke a development order if it has the endorsement of the state government.
“We want to send the message that public utility land is meant for utility purposes, and not for anything else.”
MPSJ president Datuk Adnan Md Ikshan Adnan said the MPSJ would be introducing two pilot projects in USJ 10 (Taipan) to address the issue of parking problems.
“We will be using summon locks (kunci saman) for those who have committed offences like parking illegally, double parking, parking at the yellow line, or obstructing traffic.
“These locks will be placed on either the car’s side window or door handle,” he said.
“The offender will be slapped with a RM80 fine, and be given a 50% discount if the fine is settled within 60 days. They have to settle their fines at the MPSJ office. If the locks are damaged, or if they are opened without the MPSJ’s permission, the offenders could be slapped with an additional fine ranging from a minimum of RM500 to a maximum of RM5,000,” he said.
Adnan said the project will be implemented in the middle of next month or early December.
Some 500 units of the yellow summon locks made from plastic and cable were imported from Japan.
The other pilot project, scheduled to be implemented in January, is to limit the parking duration to a maximum of one hour.
“About 70% of the parking bays in Taipan are usually taken up by those who work there,” said Adnan.
He said that those who work in Taipan should park at the multi-level parking, at a rate of RM80 per month.
“The present rate is RM105 per month. But the parking operator has agreed to lower the rate to RM80, which is the same as the MPSJ’s monthly parking rates.
“Those whose parking limit exceed one hour will be issued a fine of RM80,” said Adnan.
According to the MPSJ, there is an estimated 1,200 parking bays in Taipan.
