KUALA LUMPUR: Wisma Putra and MCA Public Services and Complaints Department are looking for the family of a Malaysian in a Chinese jail for human trafficking who fell into a coma recently.

Siaw Min Kee, 62, was admitted to the intensive care unit of a government hos-

pital in Nanjing in early October after he injured his head after falling in the bathroom.

“Wisma Putra is seeking his immediate family or relatives to give consent to an operation and foot the medical expenses,” said MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Michael Chong.

Beware of scams: Chong showing a picture of Siaw at the Wisma Putra and MCA Public Services and Complaints Department office in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

He said he hoped the hospital would carry out the operation on humanitarian grounds, even if Siaw’s family could not be located. Siaw was sentenced to nine years jail in Jiangsu Prison, China, in 2004, for human trafficking.

Wisma Putra tried contacting the family at the given address of No. 49, Jalan Sibu 7, Taman Wahyu, Jalan Kuching here but found that the property has been sold.

Those who have information on Siaw’s family can contact the department at 03-2161 5678 or the Consular Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at 00(8621) 5292 5424 (ext. 13).

From 2007 until now, the department has received 30 cases of complainants seeking assistance with respect to family members detained overseas, said Chong.

“Most of the detainees were involved in credit card fraud and drug smuggling.

“Once we receive these cases, we would contact the Malaysian Embassy or High Commissions overseas. From there, we’ll provide full assistance, including legal assistance, to fellow Malaysians who are detained in other countries,” he said.

He also advised Malaysians to be extra careful and watch out for Black Money scams.
