KUALA LUMPUR: The role of the police at the Perak State Assembly which convenes today is to ensure that security and the “status quo” is protected, Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said.
“The police know that their job is to ensure that things run smoothly. It is important for them to look at the situation and act based on the circumstances.
“I do not want to see excessive force used unless it is really necessary,” Hisham-muddin told reporters at Parliament lobby yesterday.
In Ipoh, Speaker Datuk R. Ganesan has sc-heduled a timetable for the respective assemblymen, government officers and media to enter the assembly hall.
He said Barisan Nasional assemblymen would be allowed to enter before 9.55am followed by Pakatan Rakyat assemblymen.
“The media, government officers and dignitaries can enter the hall at 9.30am,” he told a press conference yesterday.
When contacted, Perak DAP chairman Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham said Pakatan assemblymen had not received notices or directives from the State Secretariat about the “schedule” to enter the assembly hall.
“I am a three-term assemblyman and have never heard of anything like that,” he said.
