WHEN asked about their leadership experience, most youths would think of the conventional kind of leaders and come up with answers like they used to be class monitors or even prefects.
However, leadership is not limited to these conventional positions and almost all aspects of life require some form of leadership.
“Leadership is influence, nothing more and nothing less,” leadership guru John Maxwell once said, meaning that we lead whoever we influence.
When you decide where to have dinner with a group of friends, you are a leader just as much as you are the leader of your children if you have a family.
At Leaderonomics, a social enterprise whose mission is to build and grow leaders, they believe that each individual is a leader, no matter how young or seemingly inexperienced one is.
The truth is, no one is born a leader — leaders are made. In fact, research shows that leadership is only 5% genetic — 95% is learnt.
And so, Leaderonomics aims to sow seeds of leadership at an early age, starting by developing leadership in youths through its youth camp series.
The Leaderonomics DIODE (Driving it Out, Doing the Extreme) Camps enable young people to develop their leadership abilities in an action learning environment that is safe and fun. By exposing these youths to engaging activities and challenges that require critical, strategic, and analytic thinking, they will grow into world-class leaders.
Three youth camps in the DIODE Camps Series will be held in the next two months. They are The DIODE Tweens Camp for ages 12-13 (Nov 22 to 25), The DIODE Youth Leadership Camp for ages 14-17 (Nov 30 to Dec 5), and The DIODE School Leavers Camp for ages 17-19 (Jan 4 to 9, 2010).
Each camp is specially tailored and suited for the needs of the age group, enabling youths to learn and grow into leaders.
