KUALA LUMPUR: Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein has suggested that former MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek address his appeal directly to him.
He said such a move, under Section 18 of the ROS Act, would hasten the process.
The section provides an avenue for anyone not pleased with ROS decisions to appeal to the Home Minister directly.
Hishammuddin said that while awaiting legal advice on whether the second letter that Dr Chua sent to the ROS constituted an appeal, it would be easier if Dr Chua wrote him an appeal instead.
“This will be quicker and then I will look at the case and decide. (My) decision will be final then,” he told reporters at Parliament lobby yesterday.
The minister said once a decision had been made, “there is bound to be a loser”.
“If there is a unity formula in MCA, just get on with it. Just by the ROS deciding on the position of one man, it would not help very much (on the) unity of the party,” he added.
As a fellow member of the Barisan Nas-ional, Hishammuddin, who is Umno vice-president, said he did not want to get involv-ed in MCA’s affairs.
On Tuesday, Hishammuddin disclosed that Dr Chua had written again to ROS’ Datuk Md Alias Kalil following his ruling that he had no power to decide on his status in the MCA.
Dr Chua, in his initial letter, had requested the ROS to interpret the outcome of the Oct 10 EGM at which the MCA central committee had overturned the presidential council’s decision to sack Dr Chua over the sex DVD scandal by suspending him for four years.
At the EGM, the majority of the central delegates voted to reinstate Dr Chua’s MCA membership, but rejected a resolution to restore him as deputy president.
