FLAT owners who have extended their homes illegally, take note — the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) has issued a warning that they should tear down the structure themselves or the could may just move in.
MPAJ secretary Abd Hamid Hussain, who headed its full board meeting yesterday, said currently the council was discussing the actions to be taken against such offenders.
He said MPAJ was gathering data on the number of flats with illegal extension in the Ampang Jaya area.
“We have sent out notices for the offenders to tear down the extensions but they have not listened to us. One cannot have his flat unit extended. This is often the case with those who live on the ground floor,” he said, referring to a case of a low-cost flat unit at UE3 Keramat.
Abd Hamid said the illegal extension caused drains to be covered and common property like sidewalks to be taken over by certain flat owners.
“It is not fair for the other residents when common property is taken away from them. Besides that, there are also other implications involved,” he said.
Meanwhile, MPAJ is in talks with Parisign Corporation Sdn Bhd to build 250 bus stops worth RM16mil in the municipality.
The company proposed to build the bus stops in exchange for free advertisement space at the bus stops for a certain period.
Abd Hamid said the council was still weighing the proposal and had not come to a decision yet.
“Ampang Jaya does not have enough bus stops and even if we do not allow the company to build the bus shelters, we would still have to spend to do it on our own. In that sense, the offer seems good.
“The council’s revenue from advertisements a year is estimated to be around RM250,000,” said Abd Hamid.
He added that Parisign also built bus stops for areas under the Kuala Lumpur City Hall and the Petaling Jaya City Council.
