HELLO, folks!
Welcome to this week’s edition of the Food Trail.
First, a big ‘Thank you’ to all you readers out there for sending in your entries for the StarMetro - Knife Cooking Oil ‘Food Tale’ promotion.
This month, we have another male winner — the second breaking the all-female dominance since we started this campaign.
Please join me in giving a round of applause to Chee Wei Hook of Setapak, who submitted a story on a fish head curry outlet in his neighbourhood.
Here is the story:
I RECEIVED a birthday treat from my friend at Restoran Kari Kepala Ikan SG in Taman Seri Gombak, near Batu Caves, recently.
The owner, who goes by the name of Lim, had held many jobs previously and one of his interesting ventures was selling fish.
Fed-up of being an employee, he decided to open his own makan place, and today, he is a happy man.
Lim’s outlet is halal and there are many Malay customers — a testament that his cooking truly caters to the ‘1 Malaysia’ concept.
Before I delve into describing the food, I confess that I am not a big fan of fish head curry.
But, when I entered Lim’s outlet, the aroma of the curry permeating from the dining area made me salivate.
And, when my order arrived, I found the curry gravy thick and spicy.
This was just right for my taste buds and the ikan kerapu (garoupa) flesh was firm. I could taste the sweetness of the flesh, which was not overwhelmed by the spices.
You would know the fish is fresh if its flesh is not sour with a fishy aftertaste.
Other than fish-head curry, there is also a good selection of items like nasi lemak and yong tau foo.
SG Kari Kepala Ikan is located at 10-12 (same row with 7-Eleven), Jalan SG 1/8,Tmn Sri Gombak, Batu Caves.
If you want to try it, you can call the place at 03-6189 3657 or 012-207 2976.
The outlet also has branch in Persiaran Kewajipan, Subang Jaya (03 -5637 1363).
