GENTING HIGHLANDS: The MCA unity plan should be made known to other leaders in the party, Barisan Nasional deputy chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said.
He said it was appropriate for all party members to understand the plan between party president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat and his former deputy Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek.
He was speaking to reporters after opening a conference on New Developments in Education 2010-2012 at Institut Aminuddin Baki here yesterday.
He was asked about a suggestion by MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai that the party’s “greater unity plan” should involve all 930,000 party members.
Muhyiddin, who is Deputy Prime Minister, said the plan should be transparent so all party members could understand what it was all about.
On the ongoing problems in the MCA, Muhyiddin said time was needed to resolve them.
On PKR vice-president Datuk Jeffrey Kitingan quitting his Sabah state chief’s post, Muhyiddin said he had predicted the political crisis within the party.
“Its leaders do not have the same values, so there are problems and dissatisfaction,” he said.
On PAS saying that it would no longer work with Umno, Muhyiddin said it was up to the Muslim community to assess the attitude of PAS leaders who did not want to work with Umno for unity.
“We have stated our willingness to do so but PAS says it doesn’t want to,” he said.
