Pupil drowns, two others missing in unity camp mishap

What say you on the issue below?

KAMPAR: An 11-year-old pupil drowned and two others are still missing after a bridge they were crossing collapsed on Monday night.

Rescuers retrieving the body of N. Dina Deve (above) from Sungai Kampar, where the suspension bridge (below) — built just a month ago — collapsed. Nineteen students were rescued from the swift currents but the search for two other girls who fell into the river is still going on.

Nineteen other pupils who were also on the suspension bridge across Sungai Kampar were rescued from the river. They were among close to 300 pupils attending a 1Malaysia unity camp.

● Search and rescue operations for the missing pupils have been extended 15km down-river.

● The newly-constructed bridge was opened just a month ago.

● Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has ordered the setting up of a committee to investigate the incident.

● The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission said it would conduct a probe if there was any element of wrongdoing in the construction of the bridge.
