KUALA LUMPUR: The Government will investigate the collapse of the suspension bridge at Sungai Kampar in Perak, said Works Minister Datuk Shaziman Abu Mansor.
He said a technical investigation would be carried out to find out the cause of the tragedy.
“The main thing is to ensure safety of the bridge users,” he said at the Parliament lobby on Wednesday.
The newly-built bridge collapsed during a camping trip at SK Kuala Dipang near Kampar on Monday night, resulting in 22 pupils being thrown into the river. One pupil drowned and two are still missing.
Shaziman said his ministry would provide whatever assistance necessary in carrying out the investigation.
When asked if such projects should be referred to the Public Works Department, he merely said that in any engineering work, the priority was to ensure safety.
