HENRIETTA Mary had a great time at the Sharing & Caring Mid-Autumn Festival Charity 2009 lunch hosted by the Tai Thong Group of Restaurants (TTGR) as the performances brought back memories of her younger days.
The 80-year-old from Little Sisters of the Poor said the dance movements reminded her of her passion for dancing, and the music was similar to the tunes she used to dance to.
“My favourite was always ballroom dancing, and I enjoyed dancing all night long during my youth,” she reminisced.
Fellow resident Anthony Leong, 64, said he enjoyed the event more for its camaraderie as it offered an opportunity for him to enjoy a nice meal with his friends.
Leong, who confessed to not being a fan of mooncakes, said he would share the mooncakes sponsored by the organisers among his friends at the home later.
The charity lunch is part of the TTGR’s practice to give back to the community and spread some cheer among the elderly and the less fortunate.
Residents from four senior citizens homes in the Klang Valley - namely Little Sisters of the Poor, Amitabha Centre, Rumah Charis and Ti-Ratana Welfare Society - were invited for an afternoon of food and entertainment at the Imperial Garden Restaurant.
In his speech, TTRB managing director Cheak Yew Kun said the corporate social responsibility initiative that the company subscribed to was not only practised by the TTRB, but also among its corporate clients, two of which — Camberwell Club and Ritz Club — sponsored cash for the four organisations.
The Ritz Club and Camberwell Club had contributed a total of RM32,000, whereby RM8,000 would be presented to each home.
The TTGR, which is famed for its range of mooncakes that are available in a variety of flavours, also gave a box of mooncakes to each of the guests.
The event’s entertainment line-up comprised a series of lively acrobatic feats by a Chinese acrobat troupe and songs performed by a local singing sensation.
