BU’s long-vacant food court set to open

What say you on the issue below?

A FOOD court on Lebuh Bandar Utama in Petaling Jaya has been left vacant since it was constructed more than two years ago.

The structure, painted in white, blue and grey, is located at the end of the road, and can be seen at the junction leading to the Sprint Highway (towards Damansara Utama).

It was built by the Bandar Utama developer and handed over to the council to run but wooden planks were placed at the entrance to prevent motorists from driving in.

In one corner of the outdoor car park compound, a pool of stagnant water has collected in front of the trash collection area, just outside the entrance to the basement carpark.

There are stalls lining the edge of the food court but there are no tables or chairs in the seating area.

According to MBPJ public relations director Haniza Abdul Hamid, the council had on Sept 18 awarded the contract to a company to manage the operation of the food court and that it would be opened soon.

She said the operator was chosen through an open tender process and would need to carry out minor works at the building before they could start operating.

The food court is expected to be in operation in February next year.

Bandar Utama Development Sdn Bhd director Datuk Teo Chiang Kok said that since the food court has been left vacant for such a long period, he had expressed his interest to take back the building from the council and convert it into a children’s craft centre.

However, Haniza said that when they received Teo’s request, the council had already started the tender process to find an operator for the food court.
