A LEAKING manhole on a gravel road near Jalan Bendahara 15 and Jalan Bendahara 16 in Kampung Bendahara, Batu Caves has been stinking up the area.
The leaked sewage water from the manhole was seen flowing into a monsoon drain nearby.
According to a resident Gowrikumar C.K.S. Naidu, 62, the manhole has been leaking for a month.
“I called up Indah Water Konsortium (IWK) two months ago and some officers turned up to check the leakage.
“However, an IWK officer known as Faizal said the manhole did not fall under their purview.
“They said the developer had handed it over to the Selayang Municipal Council (MPS),” said Gowrikumar.
Gowrikumar said the sewage water flowing into the drain would eventually end up polluting the river system.
“Water is very precious. Instead of passing the buck, the right authority should do its part in solving this issue,” he said, adding that he had not called MPS as he had lost faith in the council.
When contacted, MPS public relations director Mohd Zin Masod said it was not the council’s responsibility to handle sewage problems or leaking manholes.
“We have nothing to do with this problem,’’ he said.
Meanwhile, an IWK representative, when contacted, said that it was the first time they were hearing about the problem and would inspect the site to rectify the problem soon.
