KUCHING: Tunku Mahkota of Johor Tunku Ibrahim Ismail Sultan Iskandar heads the list of recipients of awards conferred by Sarawak Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Abang Muhammad Abang Barieng in conjunction with his birthday today.
Tunku Ibrahim will receive the Datuk Patinggi Bintang Kenyalang, the state's second highest award, which carries the title "Datuk Patinggi".
Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud's late wife, Datuk Amar Laila Taib, will also be conferred posthumously the Datuk Patinggi Bintang Kenyalang.
Abang Muhammad's official birthday fell on Sept 12 but its celebration was delayed to today as Muslims were fasting then.
State Secretary Datuk Morshidi Ghani and former minister of natural resources and environment Datuk Adenan Satem will receive the Datuk Amar Bintang Kenyalang, which carries the title "Datuk Amar".
Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail and Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Datuk Douglas Uggah Embas will be among the three recipients of the Panglima Negara Bintang Sarawak.
The other recipient of the award, which carries the title "Datuk Seri", is state Minister of Urban Development and Tourism Datuk Michael Manyin Jawaong.
Assistant Minister of Infrastructure Development and Communication Bolhassan Di, Assistant Minister of Rural Development and Tourism Hamden Ahmad and Bishop Diocese of Borneo Right Reverend Bolly Sapok will receive the Panglima Gemilang Bintang Kenyalang, which carries the title "Datuk".
Director of the Human Resource Unit in the Chief Minister's Department Sarudu Hoklai will be among the seven people to be conferred the Darjah Jasa Bakti Sarawak which also carries the title "Datuk".
The others are Betong Division's Resident Romie Sigan Daniel, Assistant State Secretary Masbah Ariffin, state National Registration Department director Abu Bakar Mat, Bintulu Development Authority general manager Mohidin Ishak, state Education director Dr Julaihi Bujang and state election director Takun Sunggah.
Businessman William Wei How Sieng, Second Minister of Planning and Resource Management Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan's wife Datin Amar Dayang Morliah Awang Daud and veteran singer Sarbanun Datuk Abdul Kadir Marican will be among eight recipients of the Panglima Setia Bintang Sarawak which also carries the title "Datuk".
The others are social activist Paul Teo Choo Tee, Orang Ulu National Association president Dr Abu Bakar Abdullah alias Tom Belarek, Mohammed Ramji Alli from the Election Commission, Bujang Tun Ahmad Zaidi and Bishop Reverend Dr Su Chii Ann.
Eight people will receive the Johan Bintang Sarawak and they include Kuching North City Hall mayor Abang Mohamad Atei Abang Medaan, Deputy Home Minister Jelaing Mersat and Kuching South City Hall mayor James Chan Khay Syn.
Ten people will be conferred the Johan Bintang Kenyalang and they include state deputy Attorney-General Francis Johen, Federation of Sarawak Tourist Associations president Wee Hong Seng, Sarawak General Hospital specialist Dr Tay Keng Kiong and political secretary to the chief minister John David Nyauh.
Eight people will receive the Pingat Perkhidmatan Cemerlang (Gold), Pegawai Bintang Sarawak (20) and Pegawai Bintang Kenyalang (42).
Sixty-eight people will receive the Pingat Perkhidmatan Bakti (Silver), Ahli Bintang Sarawak (196), Ahli Bintang Kenyalang (63), Pingat Perkhidmatan Terpuji (105) and Bentara Bintang Sarawak (262).
