MALAYSIAN Conservation Alliance for Tigers (Mycat) and the Department of Wildlife and National Park Peninsular Malaysia (DWNP) organised a programme to reach out to the 800 villagers living immediately outside Taman Negara to play a crucial role in saving the tigers inhabiting the park.
It involves setting up stalls to disseminate information and to educate the locals on providing accurate information on poaching and illegal trade and enforcement efforts.
The programme was conducted to commemorate this year’s International Tiger Day which falls on Sept 27 and aimed at receiving information on the illegal activities.
Mycat stated that the programme was conducted from Sept 11 to Sept 14, involving five villages in Sg.Yu,Kuala Lipis, Pahang.
Other activities included setting up stalls at the local night markets, house-to-house visits as well as restaurants and sundry shops in the villages.
