NATIONAL Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye was presented with the Toastmasters International Communication and Leadership Award by Toastmasters International District 51 for his outstanding dedication and contribution in the areas of Education, Human Development, Health and Safety Affairs, Civil and Social Concerns yesterday.
Toastmasters International (TI) District 51 Governor Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) Richard Chong made the presentation to Lee at the District’s 17th Semi Annual Convention at the Genting International Convention Centre in Genting Highlands, which was themed “Speaking your way to magical Transformation through Toastmasters”.
Lee was invited as the guest of honour to officiate at the convention, which was attended by about 500 delegates from 340 Toastmasters Clubs, representing Malaysia, Brunei and Indonesia.
TI is a non-profit educational organisation that operates clubs worldwide, with the objective of helping members improve their communication, public speaking and leadership skills.
In his acceptance speech, Lee thanked TI District 51 for honouring him and pledged that he would continue to serve the nation and the community in various capacities.
Lee also called on Toastmasters in Malaysia to remain committed to their core values and principles, and speak their way to promoting a culture of peace, harmony and unity among Malaysians of every ethnic background in the spirit of 1Malaysia.
