What say you on the issue below?

KUALA LUMPUR: Human Resources Minister Datuk Dr S. Subramaniam has called on Indians living below the poverty line to register with the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry's E-Kasih programme which will entitle them to subsidy cards.

"MIC leaders will ensure that Indians living under the poverty line will get the subsidy cards to reduce their financial burden," he said at Parliament yesterday.

He also urged self-employed Indians to participate in the 1Malaysia EPF savings scheme to create savings for their retirement.

"The govenrment is also encouraging the annuity insurance scheme and this should also be taken up."

On the additional allocation for the Tekun Foundation, Dr Subramaniam urged Indian entrepreneurs to make use of the loan facility to be provided under the scheme.

"We will be able to create more Indian businessmen and help them expand their bussinesses."

On laptops for poor schoolchildren, Dr Subramaniam said it would enhance ICT skills among students, especially those in rural areas. He said many Tamil school pupils would benefit from this programme.

He said the decision to reduce corporate tax by one per cent would benefit workers as more money would be spent by companies to train their employees. He hoped this would also translate to higher salaries for workers.
