SHAH ALAM: A woman, claiming to be the secretary to Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, alleged three men robbed and kidnapped her 10-year-old child after both of them flew into Kuala Lumpur to meet with ‘‘friends’’.

The incident happened about 9pm on Friday after the woman, in her 30s, arrived from Jakarta with her son to meet with some friends she befriended through the Internet.

The suspects, whom she claimed to be African men, picked them up at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) in the afternoon before driving them to Kota Damansara in Petaling Jaya.

On the way, the woman claimed that the men threw her out of their car after an argument and then drove off with her son and all her belongings, including her laptop, clothes and cash.

Selangor police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar said the police responded after receiving a call at 1.30am yesterday - to trace the boy and the suspects.

“The boy was found wandering around the departure hall of KLIA several hours later,” said DCP Khalid after launching crime prevention programme at Universiti Teknologi Mara here yesterday.

The boy had told the police he was taken to an apartment before a taxi picked him up and dropped him off at the airport.

“We are hunting for the suspects and looking for the taxi driver to help us in our investigations,” said DCP Khalid.

After checking with the Indonesian embassy, police found out the woman was not the secretary to the Indonesian president.

The woman also claimed she had lost more than US$900 (RM3,133) in valuables and cash in the robbery.

The police had handed the woman and her son to the Indonesian embassy.

DCP Khalid urged the members of public to be wary of the Internet friend scam.

Police had received a number of complaints from women alleging they were cheated by their acquaintances they befriended through the Internet.
