RM3.8mil raised for quake victims in Padang

KUALA LUMPUR: The CIMB-The Star Padang Relief Fund has managed to raise RM3,815,787 for the earthquake victims since collection started on Oct 2.

CIMB Group CEO Datuk Seri Nazir Razak announced the figure at the closing ceremony of the relief fund for at Menara Bumiputra-Commerce yesterday.

Also present was Indonesian Ambassador Tan Sri Da’i Bachtiar and members of the Indonesian media.

Nazir said the fund would now enter the distribution stage and pledged to make the process transparent.

“I was touched by those who gave to CIMB Foundation as many donated were also underprivileged,” Nazir added.

A cheque for RM350,000 was also handed over to Mercy Malaysia president Dr Ahmad Faizal Mohd Perdaus by Star Publications CEO and group managing director Datin Linda Ngiam.

A statement from CIMB Group said the contribution to Mercy Malaysia would enable mobile clinics to remain operational for three more months while local clinics and health facilities were being rebuilt.

Nazir’s wife, Datin Seri Azlina Aziz received closing donations from PLUS Expressways Bhd and Malakoff Corp Bhd who each gave RM50,000.

Air Asia also donated additional free seats and cargo space worth RM250,000 besides previous donations of the same value.
