MTUC hands memorandum to HR ministry

What say you on the issue below?

The Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC) has submitted a memorandum to the Human Resources Ministry on outstanding issues, reported Makkal Osai.

MTUC secretary-general G. Rajasekaran said unions have not been able to commence collective bargaining on wages and employment conditions up to now.

He said they have been waiting for the ministry to draft the relevant regulations following the amendments to the Industrial Relations Act 1967 in February last year.

He said that employers openly defied labour laws and often refused to cooperate with the industrial relations department; and the government has denied unions the right to intervene in disputes relating to dismissal.

> Tamil Nesan quoted Special Advisor to the Perak Mentri Besar and state MIC chief Datuk S. Veerasingam saying that the country can achieve greater economic growth if unity among the races is maintained.

He said many countries have not been able to achieve economic growth after independence due to internal squabbles and disunity among communities.
