KULIM: S. Ashwini, who went missing from her school on Sept 8, has been found in the home of her relatives in Air Itam, on Penang island.

A specially-formed police task force team found the girl at the flats around 5am on Friday.

The 12-year-old went missing just 15 minutes before she was supposed to sit for her UPSR at SRJK (T) Kulim.

OCPD Supt Ghuzlan Salleh said they detained three women in their 30s and 40s on the same day as the missing girl was found, including two women who were seen talking to Ashwini at the school.

“We released all of them on police bail after recording their statements on the same day,” he said when contacted here yesterday.

Supt Ghuzlan said police also detained the girl’s father on the same day, over allegations that he had beaten his daughter, who had black marks around her eyes.

He was, however, released on police bail yesterday.

Supt Ghuzlan said the victim was placed in the welfare home here after undergoing medical examination at the hospital.
