Lucky shoppers never expected to win a car in contest

What say you on the issue below?

TECHNICIAN Jonny Chan, 30, never thought that his shopping trips to 1Utama Shopping Centre in Petaling Jaya could win him a brand new Nissan Sylphy (2.0) car.

Chan, from Penang, had tried his luck in the One Mega Sale contest, putting in several entries.

“I never expected to win at all, so this came as such a surprise.

“I was on holiday at the time of the contest, and did some shopping.

“Right now I am not sure what I will do with the car,” he said during the contest prize-giving ceremony at 1Utama recently.

For Wong Kam Suoy, 54, from Ipoh, the idea of having won a brand new car had not really sunk in yet.

Wong, who is in the construction industry in Singapore, planned to take the car home to Ipoh.

“I was visiting my son, who lives in Petaling Jaya.

“I never imagined that my entry would win me a car!” he said.

A total of 148 other winners also walked away with their prizes, including home theatre system, massagers, handphones, luxury bags, Onecard gift cards and shopping vouchers.

The prizes were sponsored by Sony, Osim, LG, Seque and Parkson.

The One Mega Sale contest was held in conjunction with the Mega Sale Carnival from July 4 to Aug 31.

The Maga Sale was aimed at adding more value by stretching shoppers’ ringgit with bargains and discounts offered by the 650 retail shops in the mall.

Shoppers needed to spend a minimum of RM100 and answer three questions by solving a crossword puzzle. Winners were selected through a serialised number system.

1Utama director Datuk Teo Chiang Kok said the contest prizes were worth half a million ringgit.

He also said the shopping centre received the Tourism Malaysia Mega Sale Carnival Shopping Centre Awards 2009 for ‘Best in Sales Promotions’.
