PUTRAJAYA: Health authorities have not recorded any new deaths from Influenza A(H1N1) over the past 15 days, a record stretch since the pandemic broke out in Malaysia.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Ismail Merican said the number of fatalities remained at 77, adding that over the past 24 hours, 170 new patients were warded for influenza-like illness (ILI), while 198 were discharged.
“There are currently 715 people hospitalised for ILI but only 62 patients are those with A(H1N1) flu,” he said yesterday, adding that 17 patients were being observed in intensive care units.
Dr Ismail reminded the people not to let their guard down despite the decline in the number of infections.
He said with many people still in the Hari Raya mood and those attending open houses should take extra precaution, including bringing along an A(H1N1) kit when visiting.
“Those hosting open houses should provide tissues, sanitisers and a place for guests to wash their hands,” he said, reminding the public that good lifestyle practices would help them from being infected.
