TAMIL Nesan has reported that Malaysian Hindu Sangam must take the necessary steps to ensure the continuity of the Hindu religion in this country.
The Special Adviser to Perak Mentri Besar, Datuk S. Veerasin-gam, who is also the Perak MIC information chief, made the call after opening the state’s 32nd Thirumurai Recital contest at the Sri Maha Mariamman Hall in Ipoh on Sunday.
He said Hindu Sangam should look into organising more religious activities to benefit the people.
> Makkal Osai reported MP Charles Santiago’s call for a royal commission to investi-
gate the death of A. Kugan while in police custody so as to restore confidence in the Government and its enforcement agencies.
Kugan, who was arrested on suspicion of involvement in a car theft syndicate, died early this year at the USJ Taipan, Subang Jaya, police lock-up.
Santiago said he was baffled by the Attorney-General’s decision to charge a police constable with causing grievous hurt when he had earlier classified the death as murder.
