RACE for Charity, or Jejak Amal, is similar to the well-known Amazing Race but done in a local flavour where participants would be required to solve puzzles and end up to clean a mosque, church or Hindu temple or even help in an orphanage.
Pertubuhan Kebajikan dan Amal Wanita Negeri Selangor (Pekawanis), in collaboration with the Selangor government, would soon launch the Race for Charity to encourage people to join forces to support the orphanages, places of worship, old folks homes with the aim of creating social camaraderie.
“We are now seeing many social charity work being done during Ramadan but we want to extend this spirit into the month of Syawal.
“Our aim is to get the people of all races to come together for some fun and end up feeling good that their participation has helped a home or a place of worship irregardless of their religion or language,” said Pekawanis chairman Puan Sri Salbiah Tunut, wife of Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim.
She said the event would be launched on Nov 21 and it was tailored on similar lines of the popular race, Amazing Race that keeps all rooting for a team to win.
“We would charge a fee of RM1,000 for each team where it would be channelled to the Pekawanis fund and used for various orphanages, old folks homes or be given to charities that need help.
“For the launch at the state secretariat grounds, we would ask the sister of Sultan of Selangor Datin Paduka Tengku Puteri Hajjah Arafiah to attend the event,” she said.
Salbiah added that participation was open to individuals, groups, private organisations, government staff and non-government associations.
