KUALA LUMPUR: Buoyed by the runaway success of its first Chinese New Year album, 988, the local Chinese language radio station operated by The Star, is producing a second of such album.

Released late last year, the 988 Year of the Ox Chinese New Year album 2009 achieved double platinum in sales, selling more than 30,000 copies.

The participating 988 deejays and contributing artistes attended a special ceremony yesterday to announce the start of work for the new album, tentatively titled 988 Year of the Tiger Chinese New Year.

The 10-track album comprises three original compositions and seven traditional festive tunes with new musical arrangements.

The album includes music videos for each song; and a half hour short festive drama starring 988’s in-house deejays and other prominent local artistes.

The recording of the songs have been completed. Filming of the music videos as well as for the half-hour drama, scripted by DJ May, will commnece today.

In this year’s short drama, the station’s resident deejays have all been cast as celestial beings.

Celebrity deejays KK and Luke reprise their roles as favourite deities - the Civil and Martial Gods of Prosperity (Wen Wu Cai Shen).
