While the public point their fingers at the toll booth operators for the possible act of pocketing the toll charges, the operators have their fair share of stories to tell of the highway users, too.
Litrak toll operations manager Azman Md. Din said there were rude road users who uttered nasty words at the operators.
“Some also like to disturb the operators by touching their hands. There are flashers, too!” Azman said.
On the other hand, there are also incidents when the highways users are not able to pay the toll charges as they have forgotten the right change, or lost their wallets.
“In such situations, tellers are instructed to record an IOU transaction by jotting down the time, driver’s details and car registration number,” Kesas financial and corporate division deputy general manager Abdul Rashid Rahman said.
Upon confirming that the case is genuine and the toll concessionare has not received any payment from the user, a letter will be sent to Road Transport Department to get details of the driver based on the vehicle registration number.
“A claim will then be issued to the highway user. If the case is found to be a fake one, the case will be handed over to the Human Resource Department for action against the toll booth operator,” Rashid said.
