GOMBAK: A suspected member of the notorious Mamak gang was shot and seriously injured after he tried to ram his vehicle into a police team.

The 23-year-old was shot in the abdomen twice as he tried to escape in his black Proton Perdana at the Rawang rest and recreation area at 3.40am yesterday.

District OCPD Abdul Rahim Abdullah said before the incident, a police team on a crime prevention round had spotted three men in a car behaving suspiciously.

When the officers approached, the suspect tried to ram his car into them, forcing the policemen to fire seven shots.

In the commotion, the suspect’s two accomplices managed to escape on foot.

Despite his injuries, the suspect managed to drive off towards Perak.

However, his escape bid did not last long, as hospital officials in Tanjung Malim, later informed the police about a patient who had sought treatment for gunshot wounds.

He was arrested before being brought to Ipoh Hospital for treatment.

Abdul Rahim said the suspect was wanted for motorcycle theft in Sungkai, Perak.

Police are now on the lookout for the man’s two accomplices.
