THE Prague Chamber orchestra will headline the Toyota Classics 2009 at the Shah Alam City Council’s auditorium on Oct 23.
Proceeds from the concert will go to three charitable organisations and tickets are now ready for booking.
The programme is one of the three key Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes undertaken by UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd (UMW Toyota Motor).
Conceptualised in 1990 to represent the philanthropic pillar of UMW Toyota Motor’s three pillars of CSR, the Toyota Classics Concert raises funds for charitable organisations and non-government organisations by bringing in world- class orchestras to perform in Malaysia. These concerts have brought much joy to local classical music lovers with international-standard musical performances.
This year, the Toyota Classics 2009 will be introducing to the Malaysian audiences the talents of the Prague Chamber Orchestra.
The orchestra boasts a unique position not only among Czech ensembles; for similar formations, are quite rare even worldwide.
It performs without a conductor which requires a special rapport of all orchestra members.
Each member relates not to the conductor’s baton but to the ensemble as a whole, assuming the role of a chamber music player even though the instrumentation is much larger.
The impressive half a century long performance of the orchestra has left a distinguished mark on both the domestic and international concert scenes.
Scores composed by older Bohemian masters comprising names such as Michna, Zelenka, Stamic, Benda, Dusek, Myslivecek, Vanhal and etc naturally make up an inseparable part of the repertoire.
Through the past 18 performances, the proceeds from ticket sales and individual donations, Toyota Classics concert have raised more than RM5mil allowing UMW Toyota Motor to lend support to 40 charities and NGOs.
This year’s Toyota Classics will benefit three more charitable organisations: Tasputra Perkim, Kuala Lumpur, Persatuan Kebangsaan Autisme Malaysia, Seremban, Negeri Sembilan and Agathians Shelter, Petaling Jaya, Selangor.
