THREE men were arrested for robbery by the police in Jalan Midah Timur, Taman Midah Cheras, last week.
According to Inspector Zainan Ahmad from the Narcotics Department Cheras, the first culprit was caught red-handed, while the other two were being held on drug charges for having drug-related objects.
He said Taman Midah, being a central location, was often an easy target for criminals given the many exit and entry points into the housing estate.
“Also, its close proximity to Bandar Tun Razak where there are many flats could be a contributory factor to the crimes,” he said.
Zainan said a team of officers patrol Taman Midah daily, on foot, MPVs and motorbikes, and that he would increase surveillance, especially in Jalan Midah Timur, as it was a commercial area.
“We also hope that the public would be more alert, aware and conscious of their surroundings,” he said.
Taman Midah A Rukun Tetangga president Raymond Ng said he hoped residents would continue to cooperate with the police in deterring crime.
He said under his Rukun Tetangga security scheme, they had a voluntary patrolling team gazetted as Skim Ronda Sukarelawan (Voluntary Patrolling Scheme) Section 1 which patrolled several streets in the neighbourhood.
“Our team of 20 people will patrol between 9pm and midnight every day,” Ng said.
He said for residents living in Timur, there was no such patrolling scheme at the moment although their RT also covered those areas.
“I wish to urge the residents there to form their own patrolling scheme, which they can call the Voluntary Patrolling Scheme Section 2.
“It is a good way of knowing your neighbours and helping to maintain security in your neighbourhood,” he said.
