THE PKNS Sports and Recreation Club is well prepared to face Emkay-NPNG in the final of the Super League at the Petaling Jaya Stadium in Kelana Jaya on Oct 9.
PKNS, former kingpin in the Football Association of Selangor (FAS) league, last played in the final about 15 years ago.
PKNS SRC vice-president Noor Hisham Mohd Ghouth said the players were looking forward to the final.
“We had waited almost 15 years to make the final. Naturally we want to win the coveted Super League trophy to regain our status as the kingpins in the FAS league,’’ said Noor Hisham.
PKNS, coached by former international Nazim Din, resumed training on Monday after the Hari Raya celebrations. As part of the preparations for the final, PKNS will also be playing a series of friendly matches.
PKNS qualified for the final after edging Smartfocus 2-1 in the semi-final. The winning goal was scored by Sairollizam Siedin, who is also the team manager. Emkay-NPNG made it to the final after their semi-final opponents New Rangers were disqualified by the FAS competition committee.
Noor Hisham said the players were all employees of PKNS and its subsidiaries.
“They had played for PKNS FC in the M-League. As age was catching up, they have opted to play in the less competitive FAS league. Our aim is to provide them with a platform to be active in healthy activities. They, too, want to continue playing social football,’’ said Noor Hisham.
However, PKNS is expecting a tough match as Emkay-NPNG, coached by former Selangor defender Michael Palani, have a formidable line-up.
Sairollizam said they respected Emkay-NPNG for their impressive record in the last two seasons.
“They won the league and FA Cup last year. They successfully defended the FA Cup this year and have made it to the final again this year. They have a group of experienced players, who played in the M-League and it will be an exciting match,’’ said Sairollizam after a training session at the PKNS Sports Complex in Kelana Jaya.
Just like in their past matches, PKNS will be relying on strikers Azhar Sulaiman and Nuhd Nazliazmi Mohd Nasir, who is also the captain, to get the goals.
Noor Hisham said coach Nazim had been stressing on teamwork during the training sessions.
